Urgent Care at PAAWS

Same-day help when your pet can’t wait

Our community has made it clear that accessible urgent veterinary care is needed. When Dr. Stegman expressed an interest in joining the PAAWS team, we saw an opportunity to begin meeting that need.

Starting in September, urgent care appointments will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays for pets experiencing same-day health concerns that cannot be addressed by their regular veterinarian.

What We Treat

Our urgent care team can evaluate many non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, including:

  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Decreased appetite or unusual lethargy
  • Coughing, sneezing, or other mild respiratory symptoms
  • Ear infections
  • Eye irritation or discharge
  • Skin problems, itching, or hot spots
  • Minor wounds
  • Limping or mild injuries
  • Urinary concerns
  • Other same-day illnesses or changes in behavior

This list is not all-inclusive. Our team will review your pet’s condition and determine whether urgent care at PAAWS is appropriate.

How Appointments Work

Urgent care appointments are managed through an online waitlist:

  1. Select the appointment type that most closely matches your pet's situation through our online scheduling system.
  2. Complete the requested information to request an appointment.
  3. Your request will be reviewed an approved.  Once approved you will receive a confirmation email.

Appointments will be offered based on availability. We may recommend another care option if your pet requires services we cannot safely provide.

Minn-Kota PAAWS Urgent Care is intended for same-day concerns when your pet is stable but cannot be seen by their regular veterinarian. It is not a substitute for an emergency veterinary hospital.

Please seek emergency care immediately if your pet is experiencing:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Collapse, loss of consciousness, or seizures
  • Severe bleeding or major trauma
  • Suspected poisoning
  • Inability to urinate
  • A swollen or painful abdomen
  • Extreme weakness or distress
  • Any condition that appears life-threatening

If you are unsure whether your pet’s condition is an emergency, please contact the Red River Animal Emergency Hospital for guidance.
